Press conference / Taping 'Olympic Songfest' (China)

On April 12, 2008, Celine Dion gave a press conference in Beijing, China, in which she voiced her support for the upcoming Beijing Olympics Games saying she was “definitely against boycotting” the games.

“When you talk about the Olympics, you don´t say politics”, she said. “We talk about power. We talk about love. And we talk about dreams”. Celine called on all people to “keep the dream possible for our young kids”. She was in Beijing to express support for the games after her concert in Shanghai the day before with the "Taking Chances Tour". Celine´s concert in Beijing with this tour was cancelled. After the conference, Celine received a gift sculpture from Zhao Dongming, director of the cultural activities department of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG). On learning the name of the sculpture “eternal flame”, Celine said “keep the flame eternal”. Celine also met with the famous Chinese businesswoman and talk show hostess, Yang Lan.

After the press conference, Celine Dion was interviewed for a segment aired later on CCTV4 channel in China.

The same day, Celine Dion taped the television show  'Olympic Songfest', hosted by Yang Lan, in Beijing, China. It was aired on April 20, 2008 on BTV channel in China. During the show, Celine was interviewed and then performed "The power of the dream", written and produced for the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics Games in Atlanta, USA. Four Chinese musicians performed an instrumental version of "My heart will go on" and then, Celine performed the song. After few minutes of more interview with Celine, her husband, Rene Angelil appeared on the studio and joined Celine and Lang on the interview. Then, a very touched Celine performed "Alone". At the end of the show, Celine received many gifts from her fans.
